Lola Knit Top Class with Vera
Learn to knit a lightweight, wearable top while building confidence with shaping, texture, stripes, and garment construction. Over four sessions, Vera Kuzikyan will guide you through the Lola Top, helping you build skills you can carry into future garment projects.
Class Dates: October 17, October 31, November 14 & November 28
Time: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
Instructor: Vera Kuzikyan
About the Class
The Lola Top is a sleeveless, top-down cotton garment with a square neckline, wide shoulder straps, contrasting stripes, and a textured 1x2 broken-rib stitch pattern.
Throughout the four sessions, you’ll learn to:
Work a garment from the top down
Knit pieces flat and join them in the round
Work broken rib and stripes
Check gauge and choose the appropriate size
Pick up stitches and create shoulder straps
Read and follow a garment pattern with confidence
Vera will help you troubleshoot your work, answer questions, and keep you moving toward a finished top.
Experience Level
Experienced beginner to intermediate.
You should be comfortable with:
Casting on and binding off
Knitting and purling
Basic decreases
Knitting both flat and in the round
You should also be comfortable working independently between class sessions.
Sizing & Fit
The Lola Top is available in XS–4XL and is designed with negative ease. Because the broken-rib stitch pattern has significant stretch, choosing the correct size and achieving gauge are especially important.
Materials
Please bring:
Lola Top pattern by Veronika Lindberg, available for purchase in store at The Woven End
Fingering-weight yarn to hold double or DK yarn (that meets the pattern gauge) in two colors, one as main color and one or more for stripes
Main color: 125–325 g, depending on size
Contrast color: 50–125 g, depending on size
US 6 / 4 mm circular needle, 24–40"
US 2.5 / 3 mm circular needle, 16–24"
US G / 4 mm crochet hook
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Measuring tape
Scissors
The pattern calls a gauge of 18 stitches and 26 rows/rounds per 4" after blocking.
Before Class 1
Please purchase the pattern and materials and make a gauge swatch before our first session. Bring your blocked swatch to Class 1 so Vera can help evaluate your gauge and make sure you’re starting with the appropriate needle size.
If you’d like to substitute yarn, please check with the shop before purchasing so we can make sure your choice will work for the pattern.
